Description
It is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object and converts them into a digital image. Commonly used in offices are variations of the desktop flatbed scanner where the document is placed on a glass window to be scanned. Handheld scanners, where the device is moved by hand, have evolved from “handheld widgets” for scanning text to “3D scanners” used in industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurement, orthotics, gaming and other applications. Automated document-shift scanners are typically used for large documents, where a flatbed design is impractical.
It is used to enter images and graphics into the computer, where it converts them from their graphical nature into a digital image in order to suit the nature of the computer and to facilitate storing them inside it in a file and recalling them when needed. The scanner works similar to a document copier.
